MILWAUKEE -- The circle is complete.
It started some 20 years ago in Baltimore when a gangly infielder began his career with the Orioles. The knot was tied last weekend at Miller Park by a roly-poly outfielder.
Cal Ripken. Tony Gwynn.
One made his living picking up his glove and going to work every day, literally. The other made his reputation with a 32-ounce bat, though it is forgotten he also won five Gold Gloves for his play in right field.
Two very different men with very different skills. But two men now inextricably linked as they so gracefully bow out of the game that made them famous.
