Powerful emotions ricocheted yesterday from Southern New Hampshire to Southeastern Massachusetts, through three families and three communities now linked by the murders of accused killer Gary L. Sampson.
There was fear born from random violence, anger over lives ripped away, and above all empathy for so many left behind.
"Our hearts go out to both families. It's a senseless act. We do send our condolences. We know what they are going through," said Donna McCloskey, daughter-in-law of Philip McCloskey, Sampson's first alleged victim.
