The world's biggest iron ore producer, Companhia Vale do Rio Doce, recently got bigger. The Brazilian company, known commonly by its initials CVRD, bought a 50% stake in Caemi Mineracio e Metalurgia, Brazil's second largest iron ore miner, from Japan's Mitsui, which had blocked Australian BHP's attempt to control the company.
