KANSAS CITY _ If you're around George Toma for any length of time, you begin to believe he can grow grass in outer space.
He has grown it virtually everywhere else. He once grew grass on top of some artificial turf in Tokyo. He even sprouted a grass field from the sandy grounds of Israel.
Of course, most people know his most famous turf tale, about the time he won a hefty wager by growing grass on a chunk of sod inside his coat pocket.
But perhaps Toma's favorite story is about how he grew grass on the bald head of former Royals trainer Mickey Cobb.
