For what it's worth (and for all its popularity), I don't really think Dvorak's Violin Concerto is one of his most compelling works. For those who have heard the composer's short symphonic poems, the Concerto will be familiar ground; it's filled with folk tunes and folk references, mostly bucolic in nature, sometimes seeming a bit patchwork in construction. The second movement, played without pause, is quite lovely, and there is some sign of animation in the Finale. Ms. Frank and Sir Charles play the piece most ...
