In this installment of Double Double, Tom Lyle and I return once again to the music of one of our favorite composers, Gustav Mahler, to compare a recording that we have once before discussed in this column to a new contender. As always, our procedure is for the two of us to compare these two recordings independently. Other than deciding on which CDs to compare, we do not discuss the recordings with each other until after we have completed our writing.
