In 1944, another page of Cuban music history began when a radio announcer uttered the words "¿Listo Arcaño?" (Ready, Arcaño?) and Antonio Arcaño's Orquesta Radiofonica was heard over Havana's Mil Diez radio station. For one hour, beginning at 7 p.m., Cubans from one end of the island to the other heard this orchestra of violins, flute, piano and percussion which is called a charanga francesa. Its personnel included: Jesús López (piano), Israel López Cachao (bass), Ulpiano Díaz (pailas), Julio Pedroso (güiro), Eliseo "El Colorao" Martínez (conga), Miguel Valdés (viola), Juan Pérez and Juan Rodríguez (cello), the violins of Elio Valdés, Salvador Muñoz, Fausto Muñoz, ...
