Buckingham Palace, the official London residence of Queen Elizabeth II, on Saturday opened its state rooms, garden and lake to tourists.
The traditional summer opening of the state rooms was augmented this year with a whole range of new features, including a long walk through the queen's garden and its treasured wildlife and lake that have earned the secluded space a reputation as a "walled oasis in the middle of London."
Some of the heaviest road traffic in Central London swirls around Buckingham Palace all day and most evenings, making the palace one of the more unusual royal residences in the world.
