Memphis arena will take pyramid form
The city of Memphis will realize a long-standing desire to emulate its Egyptian namesake by building a 290-ft. tall, pyramid-shaped arena based on the design of the Great Pyramid of Cheops.
The $52 million project, a collaboration of architect Rosser Fabrap International of Atlanta and contractor Huber, Hunt and Nichols Inc. of Indianapolis, is expected to be completed in the summer of 1991. The owner is the Memphis/Shelby County Sports Authority.
The arena, which will be used for the growing Memphis State University basketball program, will seat 20,000 for sporting events and 23,000 for stage entertainment. ...
