Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, and Eli Lilly and Co. have new data from a mouse study that may explain why certain antibodies can slow or reverse changes in the brain that are characteristic of Alzheimer disease.

The preclinical study used an antibody that targets a particular region on the amyloid-beta protein. The amyloid-beta protein accumulates in the brain to form the amyloid plaques, a major characteristic of Alzheimer disease.
