BASEL, Switzerland--Fifty-five thousand visitors--a four percent increase over last year--visited Art Basel 32 in June. The 32nd-annual show attracted 262 galleries (from Europe, the Americas and Asia), 1,000 artists and 1,300 media representatives, not to mention 10,000 "high-calibre" guests, in the words of an Art Basel spokeswoman.

And this year's show was certainly no exception to the rule that has seen Art Basel become the art world's foremost annual fair and a closely-watched bellwether event.
