The Spanish government can rest assured that the Aug. 6 bid deadline for its auction of Algerian gas imports won't pass unnoticed.

Spain's incumbent Gas Natural (GN) is obliged to release one-third of its annual 6 billion cubic meters (580 million cubic feet per day) of piped gas imports from Algeria for the period running from this autumn through the end of 2003. Traders may apply for any volume ranging from one-quarter to one-tenth of the release quantity of 2 Bcm/yr.
