RED CROSS STEPS UP HURRICANE RELIEF
WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 /PRNewwsire/ -- Thousands of Hurricane Hugo victims remain in Red Cross shelters throughout the Carribbean and the mainland as the organization steps up what is expected to be the single most costly relief effort in the American Red Cross' 108-year disaster response history.
"Everybody knows how wide-spread the damage is," said Bob Vessey, American Red Cross disaster director, referring to Hugo's destructive path across the Caribbean and onto the southeast U.S. coast. "What people are just beginning to understand is how utterly complete the destruction is."
