Circadian rhythm changes in Alzheimer's patients may be connected to the "sundowner" effect, said Dr. Ladislav Volicer of Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, Bedford, Mass., and associates. In a study of 25 male Alzheimer's patients, disturbances in circadian rhythms were noted in the 44% who exhibited sundowning behavior, defined as "the appearance or exacerbation of behavioral disturbances associated with the afternoon and evening hours." ...
