Let's see: Two weeks, two summer sequels to sleeper comedy hits. The originals were charming (if simple) and somewhat original takes on older formulas. They surprised us with their relative quality. And they both made a bushel of money. Which, of course, justified the sequels.
So it's no surprise that "American Pie 2" and "Rush Hour 2" feel as much like series television as big-screen movies. Both feature the same batch of characters doing many of the same things with many of the same people. They aren't new movies so much as belated appendages of their parents.
