Five wireless companies that won licenses in January's PCS auction are asking the FCC, Department of Justice and Office of Management and Budget to expedite a settlement with NextWave Telecom Inc. over licenses the carrier successfully sued to regain after the FCC seized them for nonpayment.
The carriers--Dobson Communications Corp., Verizon Wireless, VoiceStream Wireless, Alaska Native Wireless (of which AT&T Wireless is the majority owner) and Salmon PCS--last week sent a letter to Attorney General John Ashcroft, FCC Chairman Michael Powell and OMB Director Mitchell Daniels Jr. spelling out a settlement scenario.
