Flaubert wrote, of George Sand: 'Je ne peux mieux vous comparer qu'a un grand fleuve d'Amerique. Enormite et Douceur.' Beatrice Didier's impressive work aims to deal with this notion of fluidity or abondance in Sand's writing by exploring Sand's production as a feminine economy of writing: 'La plus belle action feministe de George Sand, c'est justement cette grosse centaine de volumes' (p. 5).
