Peter Broome's well-written Baudelaire's Poetic Patterns presents an in-depth analysis of fourteen poems of Les Fleurs du Mal. As is made clear in the introduction, the focus of the study is the form of Baudelaire's poetic language, seen as the core of the modernity of his works. Broome's aim is to get to this modernity of the Baudelairean form by attempting a 'comprehensiveness' of reading respecting the integrity of the individual poem.
