Joe Casper doesn't plan to open a sales office for his Lake Geneva development for weeks, yet nearly a quarter of the homes he plans to build there-at an average price of $2.5 million-already are spoken for.
The $100-million South Shore Club, being built on 39 acres formerly owned by a military academy, is the first new subdivision on the lake in more than 20 years.
Mr. Casper is betting that pent-up demand for new lakefront homes is so great that the 40 homes priced between $1.5 million and $4 million-and featuring an option to have the home outfitted top to bottom by Marshall Field's-will be completed in three years.
