ATLANTA _ Georgia's top environmental official told legislators that despite a year of normal rainfall, the state will need another year of the same before it emerges from the continuing drought.
"We're not out of the woods yet," said Harold Reheis, director of the Environmental Protection Division.
Though most of Georgia has received normal rainfall this year, Reheis said it will take two years of normal weather to replenish Georgia's surface and underground water resources. He said the current state of Georgia's rivers, lakes and groundwater is mixed.
