Aug. 12--CODE BLUE, CODE BLUE. Those words indicate a medical crisis and put everyone on alert.
Now the nursing profession is having its own code blue in South Dakota:
-- 9 percent of South Dakota's registered nurse positions are vacant.
-- 72 percent of organizations hiring nurses report some degree of shortage.
-- 30 percent report moderate to severe shortages.
-- Fewer than 10,000 registered nurses (RN) are active in South Dakota.
