Prospects Focus on Coaching at SDSU
As Tony Gwynn sat in the Padres' dugout for a moment, the field at Qualcomm Stadium and the players' warm-up activities were aglow in the setting sun. Their Saturday night game against the Texas Rangers was just a couple hours away.
The Padres' legendary right fielder was talking about his plans after he retires in September, ending his 20 years in the Major Leagues.
Gwynn, 41, has already stated what he wants to do next. Several weeks ago, he announced his plans to apply for the head coaching job with the baseball program at San Diego State, his alma mater.
