For the past dozen years, Baja California refused to march in political lockstep with Mexico City.
Because of Baja's staunch support over the past decade of the National Action Party, also known as PAN, our neighbors to the south have suffered. The opposition Institutional Revolutionary Party, or PRI, held power in Mexico for much of the last century, leaving Baja lagging in terms of federal backing.
