The Average U.S. Hedge Fund fell -0.6% net in July and the Average Offshore Hedge Fund fell -1.1% net, according to Steven A. Lonsdorf, CEO of Van Hedge Fund Advisors International, Inc. ("VAN"), a global hedge fund advisory firm. However, while both indices posted slight losses, they still outperformed most of the major indices. The Dow was able to squeak out a slight gain of 0.3%, but the S&P 500, Russell 2000 and NASDAQ dropped -1.0%, -5.3% and -6.2%, respectively.
