An influx of Hmong from California during the 1990s has established the Upper Midwest as the leading national center for the ethnic group, the U.S. Census Bureau reported today.
California began the 1990s as home to more than half the nation's Hmong. But it now has less than 40 percent. Minnesota, with 41,800 Hmong, and Wisconsin, with 33,791, jointly have surpassed California. Forty-five percent of the country's Hmong residents now live in Minnesota and Wisconsin..
