Aug 17, 2001 (The West Australian
ABIX via COMTEX) -- Permanent and long term residents of caravan parks may escape having to pay the goods and services tax (GST) on site rentals. The Australian Government and the Australian Taxation Office are working with park proprietors to ease paperwork requirements on inputs, which can be credited by management as an alternative to charging residents the GST. Australian Small Business Minister, Ian MacFarlane, denied the moves were in response to Opposition pressure. The Australian Labor Party Opposition Leader, Kim Beazley, said it was a GST roll-back measure by subterfuge.
