* According to The NPD Group, Port Washington, NY, sales of luxury skin care products priced above $50, particularly those with anti-aging properties, have grown 27% from 1997 to 2000. Baby boomers, who generally have a significant disposable income and are concerned with retaining their youthful appearance, may be the driving force behind the increase in upscale skin care products. Now accounting for 20% of total category dollars, sales of luxury skin care products totaled $354 million. According to NPD, 5.3 million units were sold in prestige channels last year.
