The New York Post's new editor in chief is getting a drubbing from media critics, but insiders say Col Allan's brand of sensationalism is catching on with the average New Yorker.

The Australian import recently sent a memo congratulating his team for the Post's growing circulation, says a staffer. On a day when Chandra Levy, Madonna and Lizzie Grubman all graced the front page, sales topped 500,000.
