Western Pennsylvania may not be big enough for two banks named Citizens.
Citizens National Bank of Evans City has threatened to sue $31 billion-asset Citizens Financial Group if it puts the Citizens name on the Mellon Bank branches that it is buying.
Though the Evans City Citizens, with $387 million of assets, has not filed a formal complaint, it claimed in a "writ of summons" sent to the Rhode Island Citizens last month that having two banks with the same name would cause confusion in the marketplace.
