The distinctive wooden sailboat that Marlin Bree built himself, piece by piece over seven years starting in 1976, is back in its slip on White Bear Lake these days, after a summer cruise on Lake Superior.
It's a wonder that Bree would take his beloved boat, the Persistence, back to the cold and deep of Superior after being caught alone on the lake during the July 4, 1999, storm that also flattened miles of trees in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
Bree's book about his adventure, "Wake of the Green Storm: A Survivor's Tale," continues to sell well nationally. And Bree said ...
