CHESAPEAKE -- Buck Stanton first heard the Army Corps of Engineers wanted to buy his Great Bridge car wash to make way for a new drawbridge in 1995.
Six years later, he expects to get a first offer from the corps any day.
The two-lane Great Bridge Bridge on Battlefield Boulevard has been obsolete since the 1970s. Drivers who travel over it daily know that backups there are common, as the five-lane road peters into a two-lane bridge.
