Minnesota taxpayers strongly favor the state's sales tax, but view Minnesota's property tax as the least favorable of the three major tax types (sales, income and property). According to survey results released today by the Minnesota Department of Revenue, 47 percent of survey respondents said if they could reduce one tax, they would choose the property tax. Fifty-nine percent of taxpayers said the sales tax is the fairest of Minnesota's three main tax types.
The survey was conducted just as the 2001 Legislature entered its last month of the regular session, and indicates that many Minnesotans see the sales tax ...
