IF YOU wonder why your kitchen pedal bin is always full, it's because each one of us in Greater London creates nearly half a ton of rubbish every year. That's around 3.5 million tons for the whole capital, and some estimates predict this garbage mountain could double by 2020.
Right now, we don't win any environmental prizes: we recycle just nine per cent of our rubbish. But local councils are on a drive to make us more rubbish-conscious. We need to dramatically boost recycling, because there'll only be one main alternative for waste disposal in the future: incinerators.
