In the previous "Applied Geoscience Forum" column, I discussed how trends in several associated technologies are affecting geoscientists' potential GIS use (see "The Future Looks Bright (In Any Spectrum) for GIS Data," GEO World, May 2001, page 30). These trends were illustrated by examples of recently available improved spatial data sources. "Visions of 2010" provided three scenarios of future applications based on the broad-scale implementation of existing prototype technologies.
