What's New and What's Not
On September 14th, 1999, the revised Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) received Royal Assent, introducing more than twice as many provisions as its 1988 predecessor. By the spring of 2000, the lion's share of these new provisions were brought into force and the new CEPA became a longawaited fait accompli. Assessing and managing toxic substances is just one area of the act that has undergone significant changes. The programs for identifying, assessing and controlling potentially toxic substances have expanded and are now more sophisticated.
