Aug. 22--The gravedigger's skill is evident: a shoe-box-perfect rectangle cut 8 feet long, 3 feet wide and 5 feet deep into the dark earth.
A shiny, powder-pink coffin rests on the bottom, nestled inside a close-fitting concrete grave liner. Artificial turf cloaks a mound of waiting dirt.
When the mourners move on, the backhoe moves in. The heavy lid is lowered on the grave liner. Soil and sod seal the hole. Eternal solitude ensues.
