Hidden in the dark of moonless nights more than a half century ago, Donald Dubois checked the compass on his B24 Liberator and gingerly lowered his World War II aircraft to 400 feet above ground in the unfamiliar woods of the enemy's camp.

"I didn't know what I was delivering or who I was dropping," said Dubois, 78, of his World War II missions as a carpetbagger.

Today, Dubois of Worcester and more than 100 men like him from across the nation will be honored for their work as World War II carpetbaggers, a top-secret group of men whose mission was to drop agents and supplies behind enemy lines in the dead of night.
