AFTER LAST YEAR'S stock market scare, Arkansas investors received an unwanted dose of reality.
Many investors began trying their hand at the bond market after learning that it wasn't the best idea to stack their portfolio with just stocks. The result was that last year was the first in many years that bonds outperformed stocks, gaining popularity as useful tools for investors.
"Last year bonds were up 10 percent while stocks were down," said Becca Garner, chief investment officer at Garner Asset Management Co. in Fayetteville. "Bonds are where people want to go right now. This is the first time bonds have become news in forever."
