WRITTEN off as useless by Spanish explorers, it took the gentle touch of the Dutch to bring out the low-key beauty of Aruba.
This 20-mile-long by six-mile-wide Caribbean island was a Dutch colony for about 300 years.
Although Dutch is the official language, you'll hardly hear anybody speaking it. Here it's the US dollar that really talks.
This is a suburb of Las Vegas, which has somehow been uprooted and plonked down on a patch of sand and scrub a few miles off the coast of Venezuela.
