ABIX via COMTEX) -- The Australian Labor Party (ALP) will replace mandatory sentencing in the Northern Territory in its first term of office. The Northern Territory's new Chief Minister, Clare Martin, said mandatory sentencing had not reduced crime, and it would be replaced with an ALP version which remained tough on offenders. New laws would return discretion to the courts.
