WASHINGTON--A report by New Zealand's Auditor General supports the country's selection of the LAV III light armored vehicle made by Canada's General Motors Defense [GM] over the Fuchs armored personnel carrier by Germany's Rheinmetall, even while criticizing the process by which they were acquired.

"For the LAV III, the areas of non-compliance were assessed as being minor," according to the Auditor General report released on Wednesday. "In comparison, the Fuchs was assessed as having significant shortfalls against New Zealand's requirements."

Earlier this year, GM was awarded a $210 million contract to produce the 105 LAV IIIs for New Zealand. ...
