Aug. 8--Conservation groups on Tuesday asked a federal court to divert some of the scarce water now flowing to Klamath Basin farmers to wildlife refuges that host migrating waterfowl and the largest population of wintering bald eagles in the Lower 48 states.
The lawsuit seeks to halt water to farmers altogether until federal agencies commit enough of it to sustain the ducks and other wildlife that eagles -- a protected species -- will prey upon come fall.
