Aug. 29--The state approved a plan to expand Con Ed's 14th St. East River generating plant yesterday, removing an obstacle to the sale of another facility to real estate developers.
The Department of Public Service gave the go-ahead to Con Ed's application to add 360 megawatts of generating capacity to the plant, located between Avenues C and D.
The expansion will entail installing two natural gas turbines in an unused portion of the plant, said Con Ed spokesman Joseph Petta.
The facility itself will not be expanded, he added.
