110- and 27-kHz signals make Wesmar's HD800 better at depth and distance.
Wesmar's HD800 searchlight sonar has been around for several years, and periodically the company adds to its versatility with new frequencies. The most recent additions are 110- and 27-kHz signals.
The 110-kHz model was introduced to remedy a shortcoming of the 160-kHz sonars Wesmar and other companies produce. Fishermen working in relatively shallow water like a narrow-beam sonar like 160-kHz sonar. But its signal is weaker than a 110-kHz signal and isn't as effective in deeper water, says Dennis Soderberg, Wesmar's vice president of electronic products.
