Aug. 30--The last health maintenance organization in Monterey County will end services on Dec. 1, forcing 3,500 county residents to choose a different type of health insurance for their needs.
In an Aug. 24 letter, Blue Cross of California informed its Monterey County subscribers that the company had received approval from the state to withdraw its HMO plan from the Monterey County market.
"Beginning Dec. 1, 2001, Blue Cross will discontinue offering and renewing HMO plans in Monterey," the letter reads. "This means your current HMO coverage may be canceled ...
