Delta Air Lines' 20,000 flight attendants have taken a first step on the path toward determining whether they will be represented by a union.

With a couple of hundred union members and Delta flight attendants standing by for a photo-op, the Association of Flight Attendants delivered a petition that asks for a union vote to the Washington, D.C., offices of the National Mediation Board.

About half of Delta's flight attendants signed cards that support the union, said David Roscow, a spokesman for the union.
