Article: EPA Works To Reform Regulation of Mountaintop Removal Mining.

Aug. 31--WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va.--The Environmental Protection Agency is working with other regulatory groups to find a new way to regulate mountaintop removal mining, EPA administrator Christine Todd Whitman said Thursday.

Speaking to reporters after her formal speech at the West Virginia Business Summit at The Greenbrier resort, Whitman said she has flown over mountaintop removal sites in Kentucky.

She said the EPA is working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other agencies that regulate mining to find a way to protect rivers.
