RED CROSS BEGINS TOTALING DAMAGE

DETROIT, Oct. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- With only preliminary damage information available from the California earthquake, the American Red Cross is beginning to total damage caused by the earthquake and by Hurricane Hugo on the U.S. mainland and in the Caribbean.

"The immediacy of the earthquake relief effort should not cause people to forget that we are still involved in meeting the needs of the victims of Hurricane Hugo," said A. William Shafer, executive director, American Red Cross, Southeastern Michigan Chapter.
