Each autumn presents a new opportunity for any college student-athlete. In the case of Yale University's football program, that opportunity comes with a new challenge - that of an underdog.
After a steady rise that saw head coach Jack Siedlecki take the Elis from 1-9 his first season and improve them to ensuing records of 6-4, 9-1 (Ivy League co-champions) and 7-3 (last year), Yale finds itself losing the battle for respect with most national publications, which have picked the Elis for no higher than fifth in preseason polls.
In truth, Yale relishes its newly acquired role. "I think it's motivation," said Siedlecki.
