Sep. 4--JAMESTOWN, N.D.--Brian Amundson's head was in the meat business even when he was strictly in the cattle business five years ago. Now he's in both -- physically.
Amundson, 27, is the son of Van and Pattie Amundson, who operated the Bar V Ranch for some 30 years, about two miles south of Buchanan, N.D. Brian has run it for five years and has expanded into his own retail, direct- market business.
When Brian was growing up, Van farmed 650 to 1,000 acres and ran 300 to 350 stock cows. They "background- fed" their own calves and fed about 1,000 more for other ...
